BIO DAVID fell in love with photography at a young age. Fascinated, growing up, by his father's Minolta camera, David developed a deep respect for cameras and the pictures they produce. The first pictures he fell in love with were those in his family's photo albums. It was from them that he learned the true significance of photography: To tell the stories of our lives.At first, though drawn to photography, he did not feel the need to take the photos himself. Instead, he pursued a career in graphic design. It was here that he further gained interest in photography, when he was repeatedly disappointed by the quality of photos that came across his desk. Spurned forth by this realization, he went and bought his very first camera. Disappointed that he could not find a Minolta, like his father had owned, he settled for a brand he was unfamiliar with called Nikon. Still working in graphic design, he decided to go back to school and enroll in a class on photography. It was at Mount San Jacinto College, in southern California, that he met the teacher he to this day describes as "an absolute gem". The teacher taught the class to pursue photographic technique, and refused to teach Photoshop, in case they may come to rely on it. Living in a semi rural area at the time, most of David's photos for class where limited to what he could find to shoot at the construction sites after work. Generally it was later in the day, allowing him to capture hard light, long shadows, and very interesting shapes. He learned that one could make everything look beautiful with the right technique, and to this day is quite fond of training assistants using literal trash.After receiving his training in California, David later moved to Springfield, Missouri. Here, while working in a print shop, he was introduced to the towns biggest sports photographer, who ended up asking for his assistance on an upcoming shoot. This led to a quite rewarding association, since it was through this photographer that David eventually met the man who became his mentor, Preston Dial. Through Preston, he learned what photographing people COULD be. Preston exposed David to photographers such as Yervant and Jerry Ghionis. Seeing Yervants work for the first time, he said, "was like seeing what I had in my head expressed in photography for the first time." It was through these relationships and working with Preston one on one that David began to define his own style. Realizing it wasn't important to duplicate Preston's shots, David went the exact opposite, shooting people with a wide angle while they were looking at Preston, which became somewhat of a trademark that he carries down to this day.He found his real vision in photography was telling a story. Expressing the romance and passion in a day. It's about the location; the moment; how the people are feeling, along with their expressions. When asked how he would define his style, he called it: cinematic portrait journalism. He stated he finds inspiration in fashion, cinema, and traditional photography. Though he knows that many photographers hate posing people, he finds this somewhat disappointing. He finds his best photos come from careful planning of the wedding day, and an understanding of how posing will affect the mood of the image. Dedicated to perfection, detail and client satisfaction, David works his hardest to make sure every event is as beautiful as it is memorable. Senior/Maternity/Engagement Sessions $250 for 90 minute Session with me and an assistant. This will include digital proofs which you can then use to purchase a full res cd with rights and/or prints.
